Crossbox (mail.mxlogin.com) for users on wednesday.mxrouting.net server

    Identified

At least 2 users have reported a license expired error when using Crossbox (mail.mxlogin.com) with the wednesday.mxrouting.net server as their home server. This is not within our control, we have a ticket open with the developer. In the meantime, feel free to use webmail.mxroute.com, wednesday.mxrouting.net/webmail, or any other available webmail or non-webmail related client. This is not considered to be a service outage as this is merely one of many available webmail clients, and it does not relate to the actual email service.

Packet loss to accounts.mxroute.com

    Update

We want to stress that the only outage here is of our billing and support portal. All customer services are online. However, we do consider our billing and support portal to be quite important, even if (and it is) secondary to actual customer mail servers. With that said:

We've been granted a license by our billing software vendor that will allow us to run a failover setup moving forward. However, we still need to transfer the data from the location behind the cut fiber. We still believe at this hour that the lesser evil is waiting for that repair crew to splice the fiber, and that the worse choice is to restore a 24 hour old backup and then rebuild the last 24 hours of changes in the database from logs that we're not prepared to automate against in any shorter amount of time than we could rebuild it by manual data entry.

This was a perfect alignment of variables made worse by exponential growth of our business and a failure on our part to adjust the backup strategy to compensate for that growth. When that backup strategy was introduced, rebuilding 24 hours of the database by manual data entry wasn't such a large job.

    Update

This is a great time to migrate our billing/support portal. If it's effectively down, we can migrate it by the time it would be back up. That's what we're doing right now.

A fiber cut is impacting network connectivity in Spokane, WA where accounts.mxroute.com is currently hosted. Continuing to monitor.

We are seeing high packet loss to accounts.mxroute.com. This appears to be a network issue a layer above us. We are monitoring the situation. This does not impact services, it does impact billing and support.

IMAP server back up on Pixel. That wasn't supposed to happen. This software upgrade path is flawed and needs to be reconsidered. Halting updates.

The IMAP server on pixel.mxrouting.net was supposed to go down for a few seconds, but it's taking longer. SMTP is not down, IMAP is.

We're running some necessary software updates to the fleet. Random things might flap up/down just a bit but nothing too bad or for very long.

If a webmail instance goes down for a bit on one of these boxes during the MySQL/PHP upgrades, feel free to use https://webmail.mxroute.com or any other email client you already have.

All indicators right now point to this taking longer than scheduled, but the reason for the maintenance is the same reason that I cannot presently tell how much longer that might be.

    October 06, 2024 at 5:00 AM

We will be performing maintenance on the Crossbox (mail.mxlogin.com) webmail client at 12:00AM US/Central on October 6th, 2024. We are scheduling a 12 hour outage and expecting it to take much less. This does not impact email service at all, only one of our webmail choices. If you need a suggestion on a different webmail to use during this time, try using webmail.mxlogin.com which will function with any email account that is hosted on our systems.

If for some reason you plan to use webmail.mxlogin.com to login to an email account that is not pointing it's MX records to us, you can add a TXT record to the DNS of that customer domain which has the name "mxwebmail" and the contents "safari.mxrouting.net" inside it.
